So, I've been single awhile, on purpose really. I spent some time trying to figure myself out after a rough breakup, and at this point I feel like I’ve done that. I have been perusing CL and other places a bit to see what's out there. I'm shy in person at first, lazy and kind of a homebody so I'm not too excited to go out to bars and whatnot looking for a guy to date. I’m bad at this “dating” thing anyway, to me a date is just hanging out at someone’s house getting to know each other. Apparently that is not usually the case, I’ve come to understand that guys I supposedly dated were really just friends with benefits. Okay then.
Basically what I'm seeing is that most of the guys posting - I KNOW some aren't real, but come on - CANNOT SPELL or form a complete sentence. Maybe I am a spelling Nazi that spends too much time on the damn internet chatting away, but I can't help I have friends all over the country and that it's the easiest way to keep in touch. So I notice these things. Am I the only one? I'm 29, I work in education, 5'7 with short, dark blond hair and average build. As I said before I'm kind of a hermit but I think it's mostly because 1) I like baseball & none of my friends do, so I've spent April-October holed up in my apartment watching mlb.tv, and 2) I don't have a ton of friends (which I'm fine with but am pathetically starting to attempt making new ones). Ask the friends I do have, I'm not psycho, or a jerk, or (that) annoying. I just keep to myself. I like the cliché "indie music", especially britpop and whatever came after it, occasionally I write about it. I love Morrissey and all the writers he adores, but I admit I don't have the attention span to pore over it most of the time. I also love foreign/classic films, photography and food. I have several tattoos and wear nerdy glasses sometimes but they don't necessarily define me. This ad would lead you to believe otherwise, but even though I have become a bit jaded in recent years I am all about falling in love dramatically and storybook endings. Really just looking for a down to earth girl who is not very materialistic, likes music and sports as much as i do, truthful (being blunt is my favorite kinda person), I won't lie i do have to have some physical attractiveness and i do prefer older women but not to hate on the younger ones,
Seems more are concerned with looks. What happened to personality, conversation, or enjoying one’s time? I know attraction is important, but if you do not talk to someone, you can never know if there is more there to one’s looks, and one’s ultimate agenda, and your attraction. I venture to ask; are we animals looking for random hook-up’s, or are we humans looking for long-term companionships, and friendships?
In real life we may see someone we may think is avg., ok, or what ever….. but we still communicate, have a conversation, maybe even learn something. Who knows, become attracted?
So if you are still reading. Why do I ask all this? Because I am posting looking for something real and that has opportunity. My job is demanding, but a blessing. Okay, so here goes...
1) You're not fat.
Yep - that's the first one. I'm not absolutely in shape - but I can see my feet when I'm standing up. If you're average - cool. As long as it's not 'san antonio average'. For the record, I've dated those who 'facts' consider overweight and they just can't keep up. I LOVE hiking (that's 'hiking'...6+ miles is a lazy day) and the idea that I have to be afraid they're going to have a heart attack just isn't fun. Don't get me wrong - I love rotting on the couch - but when it's time to go, we gotta go. Feel free to drop me a line and give me sh*t about how superficial I am; the amount of care I will put into a reply is most likely the same as the care I have for your opinion :)
2) You don't have kids.
Number B. I don't have kids - but that's not to say I don't want any. I'm just not in the market for a 'ready made' family. I'm one of the few (apparently) who would like to be with my woman for a while WITHOUT children. For the record - kids don't save relationships; they exacerbate the issues already existent in them. *So far - not too unreasonable, huh? Now I'll be fair and approach a few of my negatives.*
3) I smoke.
Of the many strikes against me, this is probably the one that keeps me single most of all. Well maybe not solely, but it's definitely a factor. It's true that I can quit...but honestly? I like to smoke (rather, my brain tells me I like it - personally, it stinks :P) so quitting 'for me' isn't enough. I've always told myself if I found "the one" and she didn't want me to smoke...I'd quit. Conversely, if I quit, I might find "the one"...LOL, see the insanity? If she can deal with it - cool; I'll quit eventually. A point of note - I don't have to smoke when dating. I've had plenty of pseudo-long-term relationships (6 mos or so) where I couldn't smoke around them - and smoking isn't why were not together anymore :) That's all I have to say about that.
4) I'm short.
There's the kicker. Much like I'm sickened by fat people, women are turned off by short guys. You can try to BS me all you want, but (from my experience) it's a fact. I stand a statuesque 5'5" (along with my frame of 130 soaking wet) which is far from the average for American men. It's also many notches beneath the 'tall dark and handsome' specs which women so desperately crave. Unfortunately, unlike my smoking, I can't fix it.
5) I'm an a-hole.
That really could be "it", LOL. So here's the quick breakdown - I'm really f**kin' smart and I actually do know 'everything' (though that's just what I called her - I think her name was actually Sally :p). Seriously - I wouldn't call myself book smart - heck, I can't even pass a College Math CLEP; but I can read whole books once and memorize them (prolly should get the CM CLEP guide, huh?). So what does that say? It says that I come off pretty arrogant AT TIMES. I'm not always like that. I am more than willing to admit when I don't know something. The problem is - it's rare that I don't know something IN MY ENVIRONMENT. I get a 'know it all' rap at work (I'm in the military) but the sad part is - there, I DO know it all. There are no more challenges - so I have a perception of myself and ability. AT WORK there's NOTHING I can't do (yea, yea, yea...double negative; chalk it up there with my dangling participles :P). Beyond work - it's sometimes the same thing. I definitely prefer the history channel to ESPN and I suck that sh*t up like a sponge. As a matter of fact - I'm not a sports fan. I have my 'teams' of course, but only because I grew up with them - not because I hold any true affinity for the sport. If it matters - I love hockey and soccer...football, not so much. I have no idea where that fits in with me being an a-hole, so I guess I'll get back to that. Okay, so (in a nutshell) I have an ego...who doesn't? Everyone has an ego about something - but I say I'm an a-hole just to state the worst case scenario...I don't actually believe I am :) Confused yet?
