<description><![CDATA[Hill Country Telephone Cooperative is seeking skilled Outside Plant (Installation & Repair) Technicians.  Hill Country Telephone currently relies on several thousand miles of copper outside plant to support its customers in 15 exchanges in the Texas Hill Country in the vicinity of Kerrville, Texas.  Aggressive modernization is underway placing fiber optic cable, Ethernet rings, and IP design access concentrator equipment in both fiber-to-the-premise and fiber-to-the-node applications.  Therefore, the network is rapidly evolving to primarily a fiber feeder architecture with shortened copper distribution loops, maximizing availability of high bandwidth Ethernet or ADSL2+ based broadband services to our members.<br>
<br>
Technicians require a wide range of skills.  Assigned responsibilities encompass splicing and maintaining copper and fiber outside plant, performing cable locations, some corrective maintenance of batteries, rectifiers, and IP access equipment at concentrator locations, installation and maintenance of drop and premise wiring and demarcation points, fault location, testing, and trouble analysis.<br>
<br>
Services supported include dial tone and a range of special services that are based upon SONET, T Carrier or Ethernet.  With respect to premise activities, technicians may install and maintain small and medium size business systems, WildBlue satellite systems, and various types of WiMax receivers.  The technician performs other duties as assigned.<br>

EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATIONS<br>
The successful candidate should demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills and be proficient in the use of personal computers and/or maintenance terminals, GUI interfaces, the standard Microsoft Office Suite, and various types of test equipment. <description><![CDATA[The Central Office Technician is primarily responsible for the installation, cutover and maintenance of Central Office (switching, trunking and power), Access Concentrator (subscriber carrier), Fiber Optic Transport Equipment, and special circuits (T1, DS1, DS3, OCN to cell towers and other businesses).  Trouble analysis and maintenance duties may also include assignment into the Network Operating Center (NOC).  Other duties include creation or maintenance of switch translations, building equipment maintenance (HVAC, some electrical).  This position is called upon to coordinate with connecting companies to establish and maintain interexchange services.  Additional duties include preparation of reports (i.e., work orders, equipment transfers, circuit inventory, Continuing Property Records/JSI forms) and other duties as assigned.  NOTE:  This position requires availability for a rotating 7 day/24 hour on call assignment.<br>

EXPERIENCE<br>
Applicant should possess a minimum of 7 years of telecommunications industry experience which demonstrates deep familiarity with some or all of the following:  digital switching systems (maintenance and translations), transport technologies, central office power systems, broadband experience and VoIP technology.  The successful candidate should demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills and be proficient in the use of personal computers and/or maintenance terminals, GUI interfaces and related software as well as the standard Microsoft Office Suite.<br>
<br>
Established competence in the majority of the following products/technologies is required:  Nortel DMS 10, Nortel CS 1500, Adtran SONET, OCCAM Access Platform, Alcatel and Sycamore Digital Cross Connects, Hi-Cap special circuits, T1 Analyzer and other types of test equipment.<br>

Required Technical Skills:<br>

6. Check and maintain node inputs and outputs.<br>

7. Perform minor work at hub sites and diagnose hub problems.<br>

8. Diagnose and change out power supplies and amplifiers as required<br>

9. Find and fix signal leakage on a daily basis.<br>

10. Diagnose and correct all drop related problems.<br>
<br>
11. Guys, lashes, pulls and splices coax cable.<br>
<br>
12. Draws up minor plant extensions to be designed.<br>
<br>
13. Use and maintain CATV equipment including, but not limited to, trenchers, boring equipment, saws, drills and bucket trucks.<br>

14. Properly use and maintain VOMs, SLMs, leakage meters, TDRs, ground fault locators, cable locators, OTDRs and other equipment.<br>
<br>
15. Perform installation / attic work to repair coax cable when necessary.<br>
<br>
16. Other duties as assigned.<br>

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE<br>
<br>
Education:<br>
Service as Advanced Installer for at least six (6) months, or equivalent previous experience. Satisfactory passing of SCTE or NCTI Service Technician course. Satisfactory passing of practical test administered by employer demonstrating practical ability to perform the required skills of the classification.<br>
