One of Europe’s most important contemporary artists, Johnny Friedlaender was born in Pless, Upper Selesia in 1912 and died in Paris in 1992. He studied painting at the Academie des Beaux-Arts in Breslau making his first etchings before moving to Dresden in 1930 and ultimately to Paris where he became a French citizen. His first one-man show was held at the Galerie La Hune in 1948. Honored thereafter at the Venice Print Biennial and then a recipient of a UNESCO grant to open his own etching workshop. Influenced other notable artists, including Piza, Nottebohm, Rodó-Boulanger, et al.
