This is for a beautiful original oil on canvas by Antonio DeVity depicting the main street in front of the Paris Opera House(Opera Garnier, second building). This is a grand piece at 45x33. There are a few paint chips and some retouching here and there but there is so much happening in the image that it doesn't detract from the presentation. The frame has its own nicks and bumps in the gold finish as well that could also be retouched.
This shows a busy street on an overcast day with nicely dressed people, street lamps, shops, restaurants and a horse drawn carriage.
Also note the marking "Made in Italy" on the wood stretcher. DeVity would paint his pieces in France and then mount them when he returned to Italy.
Artist Bio:
Born in Reggio-Calabria in 1901, Italian artist Antonio DeVity was a master of cityscape painting. After moving to Rome during early adulthood he was mentored by the famous painter Giacomo Balla, an artist credited as co-founder of the Futurism movement. The stunning streets of Paris became the focus for Antonio DeVity's impressionism. His work shows historical buildings and places just as they were in the early 1900's because he was actually there.
