In 1988 I heard a car stereo that changed the way I listen to the world. The head unit was a Nakamichi TD-1200 MKII--the best mobile cassette deck on Earth at the time. My idiot friend Jimmy paid $1450 plus tax for the deck alone in 1988. Of course he didn't work for the money--his grandfather choked to death at a Kentucky Fried Chicken in Atlanta and made Jimmy's day by bequeathing him $4,000. Jimmy told me it was the best thing that ever happened to him.
So numbskull buys a $1000 garbage Camaro and puts a $3000 stereo in it. We listened to it in his dirt driveway, because the car never ran. It was so awesome. The Nak was amplified by a Rockford-Fosgate Punch 150, which powered just two JBL T545 6x9 triaxials. In the forty years that have passed I have not heard its equal. That is why I build stereos--I want to hear that again.
I have cassette head units, CD head units and digital media head units. I have rock-solid American-made amplifiers from back in the day. I have old school graphic equalizer/boosters that are sure to change your luck. They all work perfectly.
