Sony’s rare, monster, top of the line, near mint vintage stereo receiver, from a non smoking environment, never outside, clean, well maintained and tested. Large footprint, heavy (50 lbs), 3 speaker outputs (4-16 ohms), hardwood sides and top are in near new condition; no scratches overall except the power switch face; easily buffed out. Everything works.
Very warm, clear sound, silent switching, extremely powerful and accurate. Has 3 AC outlets on back to power up the rest of your source components all at once.
Sony's top-end units were (and still are) scarcely distributed so, like many others, unfortunately, the 7800SD is one monster receiver almost no one has seen. Super silent at .07% Total harmonic distortion and a signal to noise ratio of 10-30,000 hertz (20-40,000 hertz phono). Tone controls include bass, mid and treble controls, plus both loudness and acoustic compensation.
The STR-7800SD sported such ultra-high-end componentry as a very heavy toroidal transformer and LEC transistors - near science-fiction in 1977. Made in Japan, at 125 watts per channel RMS continuous power, the 7800 remains one of the unsung heros of the power wars of the golden age of vintage stereos. Your neighbors will love you.
Plus OCL outputs and DC circuitry, a PLL/MOS-FET 4-gang tuner section, three speaker pair outputs, an adaptor loop, Dolby FM compatibility, lots of power and supersized (but rigorous) looks to match the inside.
