Offered for your consideration is Craftsman 24 HP Garden Tractor with 50in. Mower Deck, optional GVT Sleeve Hitch and optional GT Front Bumper. Please note that this is not just a Lawn Mower. This was the largest Machine offered by Sears and it is capable of handling a variety of implements including, rotary tiller, box blade, cultivator, rake, disc, scraper blade, and de-thatcher as well as various pull-behind tools including sweepers, vacuum bagger, lawn roller, and various carts/trailers. I once used this to maintain a large garden and used this Garden Tractor with a rotary tiller, cultivator and rear blade. The same lever used to lift the mower deck is used to raise and lower whatever implement you have attached to the sleeve hitch.
This Garden Tractor has been garaged its entire life and has had regular engine, transaxle and mower deck maintenance. The engine oil and filter were changed every year (approximately 30-hour intervals) and the transaxle oil and filter replaced at 100-hour intervals. The mower deck has been completely rebuilt three times, with new blade spindles, pulleys, idler pulleys and blades replaced (see photo of 2023 deck-rebuild).
I replaced the electric PTO clutch in 2021. The front tires were replaced in 2023. The battery was replaced in April of this year (2025). The steering column shaft, gear sector, shaft bushing and drag link were replaced in July of this year (see photo of old parts).
The sheet metal is straight with no dents or rust. The headlights work, as does the hour meter and ammeter. I am very particular about my equipment, and I thoroughly washed and waxed the sheet metal every 2-3 years. The seat has a few tears, but the foam rubber is intact. Since the Garden Tractor was always garaged, the foam rubber never got wet. I just purchased a padded seat cover to help make this more attractive to any potential buyers.
This Garden Tractor has served me well and I have had no issues purchasing spare parts, even though Sears retail stores are now defunct. Sear Parts Direct still maintains a considerable parts inventory. This is due to the fact that this Garden Tractor was manufactured by AYP (American Yard Products). This is the same company that made Poulan, Troy Built and Husqvarna riding mowers. AYP was purchased by Husqvarna in the mid 2000's and Husqvarna maintains spare part inventories. Many of the parts used on this Garden Tractor are still being used on new Husqvarna tractors. In recent years I have purchased many replacement parts from Amazon and have simply typed the Sears part numbers into Amazon search and I find multiple options (too many sometimes). Many Sears part numbers cross over directly to Husqvarana by placing "53" in front of the Sears part numbers.
Other than air filters, oil filters, oil and spark plugs I have not had to make any repairs to the engine. I did have to remove and clean the carburetor once after accidentally letting stale gasoline gum up the float and jets. Since then, I only use non-ethanol gasoline and pretreat with StaBil fuel treatment. The Engine is a Kolher Pro V-Twin Model CV24S and the Transaxle is a HydroGear Model 222-3010L. Replacement parts for the engine and transaxle appear to be available from multiple on-line supply houses.
I have two Operators Manuals (English and Spanish) as well as the Manuals for the Sleeve Hitch and Bumper. Because nothing ruins a good day of mowing more than a broken mower deck belt, failed idler pulley or bent mower blade, I have maintained a spare parts inventory so that I could make immediate repairs in the field and get back to the mowing. I have a complete set of belts (PTO to Deck x 1, Engine to Transaxle x 1 and Mowing Deck Belt x 2), a complete set of all idler and tensioner pulleys (mower deck and drive line) and a complete set of blades (see photos). I also have a spare air filter and oil filter for use at the end of this season as well as a full set of mower deck wheels. The cost of these spare parts exceeds $150.
I have decided to jump on the Zero-Turn bandwagon since I no longer maintain a garden and this Garden Tractor is now surplus to me. I am confident that proper maintenance it will serve the new owner for many years to come.
