Authentic(tested) CINNABAR LACQUER, intricately carved by hand in this ancient Chinese traditional artistry. 5 in diameter x 2 in high. Exact age unknown- obtained 1970.

The carvings on the top of lid depict a Chinese Scholar sitting at a table with his books and an incense pot. There are two attendants bringing him bowls of sustenance/teas. They are all surrounded by Pine Trees overhead, Mountains to the side, clouds above where you can see the dimensional layers of the lacquer carving and a Crane in front. Pine Trees and Cranes mean longevity. The background is black lacquer carved in deep patterns consistent with this Chinese art form. The sides of the box are delicate rings of Camellias. The inside and bottom are black lacquer. All are delicately polished for a satin-like sheen.
