Parents / Grandparents/ Godparents!
Concerned about your child or the young person who is very much in your life?
If your child’s grades are falling below 80- 85% on tests & quizzes, your child almost certainly needs a tutor.
Is your child currently reading an entire book with his or her class? It’s a shame, but this only happens (these days) in private school of high school AP classes! I’ll have your child in a great book, which will lead to exciting conversations!
Learning differences ?
Dyslexia ? ADHD?
Interested in *homeschooling?
Please keep reading!
Experienced and enthusiastic teacher /tutor can be the transformative force in your child’s life!
What to know before you hire a tutor:
1) Be sure to find someone who is a lifelong learner. Ask potential tutors what they are (currently) doing to improve themselves academically.
Ask what they’ve read “for pleasure” this year.
2) Be sure their values align with yours - not exactly, but mostly. You don’t have to ask about a religion or political party. Just be sure you ask about an ethical problem they’ve had while teaching school and how they resolved it. That will tell you a lot!
3) Be sure you are committed and can absolutely have that child or teen transported to the tutor at the appointed times each week.
4) Unless you are only needing enrichment, plan on tutoring 2 or 3x per week. It’s important. Tutoring once a week, while not worthless, will not help your child to make serious gains. Children 10 & up can usually work for 60 - 90 minutes with a short (5 min) break. Kiddos 4 - 9 years of age can usually work 60 minutes. If they need a short break, my preference is, without telling them, extending our meeting another five minutes.
5) Don’t send your kids to a tutor or to Mathnasium or Sylvan or to anyone if they have a fever, a rash, have been exposed to pink eye or lice - or if they have been obviously sick for 36 hours prior to the tutoring appointment.
Okay - got it?
If you are still reading, it’s because you learned to have “stamina” growing up. You had some good teachers!
It is my goal - not just to be sure your kiddos have skills - reading, writing, math - but that they build the stamina necessary to read an entire book, to “stay with” a “3 step” math problem, to write a “friendly letter” within a 30 or 40 minute time span, to keep their heads up while watching a 30 - 45 minute educational film.
Along with stamina comes the tasks of comprehension, analysis, and much, much more. Along the way, they will learn the power of observation, listening skills, and good communication. Creativity is encouraged and celebrated.
If this sounds good and if you’re looking for a tutor or homeschool teacher, I invite your reply.
I’m background checked thru a national tutoring platform, my church, and a local verifying agency. I do not smoke, vape, or chew any kind of tobacco! I don’t do drugs. I need every one of my brain cells.
And, if all this sounds serious, it is, and yet, there is still joy in our tutoring or class sessions!
Please use this platform to send me a reply. Please include your PHONE NUMBER. Without your phone number, there is no way to get in touch. Please also include a time 9 am - 9:30 pm - when I can best reach you.

• For secondary - My specialties are Reading. English, Writing, + All Social Studies subjects.
(I’ve taught both Geography & U.S History. I’ve tutored Political Science and Ethics at the college level.) Every student gets a smidgeon of Current Events. (They should know who the name and be able to recognize a photo of their Mayor, Governor, and President. They should understand the meaning of the 4th of July.
• Students who need higher Math or high school level Science classes are referred to a well-respected, highly skilled colleague.
Fees are $45 per hour. Those who tutor 4 hours a week or more pay a lower fee.
*Homeschoolers - 9 hours (minimum,) to 16 or 20 hours per week are given a special weekly or monthly rate. It depends upon level of preparation, level of difficulty, number of students, etc.
A mainstream curriculum is required, or, for a fee, I can put together a curriculum that will meet your student’s needs and pique his or her interests.
