WW2 Cattaraugus 225Q Quartermaster w/ Original Leather Sheath.
Knife is Stack leather Handle all 225Qs were intentionally roughed up at the center for better grip.
The WWII Military Issue Cattaraugus 225Q (Quartermaster) knives were masterfully designed jointly by the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corp & U.S. Navy Quartermaster Corps and was used primarily by the Seabees and Army Corp of Engineers to pry open and hammer close crates. Soon after they were distributed to our U.S. fighting men throughout all U.S. military branches. The thick bladed Q knife soon became the workhorse knife of WWII.
CONDITION: Knife is solid with zero loose parts, in used but excellent condition, especially for its age. Original leather sheath is used, aged and missing some stitching in two areas but is stabilized and not running by its re-enforced rivets. Secure strap is fully functional.
The Q knife has the thickest blade of any of the WW2 military issue blades. It has a heavy 3 layered pommel designed for hammering and bashing (SEE LAST PHOTO). The Q knife soon proved to be the strongest most reliable all purpose military fighting knife of WW2.
As Heavy Duty & thick as this 1095 High Carbon Steel 6 1/8 inch blade is the 225Q had a sabre grind blade known for its ease to get
RAZOR Sharp. Designed with a sabre grind, much like the WW2 Mark 1s & Mark 2s (the so called "Ka-Bar" knives) this extra thick blade can be honed to a razor sharp edge and, thus, served millions of our WW2 U.S. troops reliably in combat as well as survival and as a utility knife throughout the U.S. military during WW2.
When you have a 225Q in hand you know you're holding a strong knife. The stacked leather washer handles were factory roughed up at the center for better grip as it was designed to prying open and hammering shut crates to combat to digging trenches to pounding stakes into the ground and anything else that was asked of it, this knife is, hands down THE Workhorse Knife of WW2.
Again, the Q knife handles were factory roughed up with pronounced scuffed grooves at the center of the handle for better grip, thus, there is zero damage to the leather handle. The handles were intentionally made this way by design straight out of the Cattaraugus Factory in Little Valley, New York USA (a small town in Cattaraugus County). The thick stacked leather handle with an extra thick blade and heavy hammer face pommel butt, (see photo) the U.S. military's most reliable all purpose knife of WW2. The guard is not a cross guard, with the top of guard shortened and rounded for easy handling for detailed work as with today's used in "bushcraft". With that, the Q knife is the most well rounded knife of WW2. From the thick strong blade and hammer face pommel for all around heavy duty use, to the grind that was designed to get the blade razor sharp. The 225 Quartermaster knife was proven to be an excellent fighting knife as well, in biggest field test ever, throughout all Pacific conflicts to Normandy and into Germany during our nation biggest war ever (( WWII )) this knife served our U.S. soldiers throughout all branches.
